PROFILE TESTING

Cannabinoids are among the active ingredients that contribute to many of the medicinal properties of cannabis; therefore, knowing a complete cannabinoid profile helps consumers determine the potency and medicinal benefits of the product. Our testing process identifies and quantifies the potency of 16 cannabinoids including the major cannabinoids (THC, CBD and CBN), as well as many of the minor cannabinoids (THCV, CBG and CBC). Proper dosing is vital to any treatment plan so ensuring accuracy in product labeling and formulation is critical for all cannabis consumers.

Terpenes are chemical compounds and, like cannabinoids, have medicinal properties. The combination terpenes and cannabinoids interact in such a way that use of the entire plant is more medically beneficial than any one cannabinoid or terpene alone. Our testing can provide potency information for 23 terpenes in the cannabis flower and concentrate products.
CONTAMINANT TESTING

Volatile chemicals like butane, propane and hexane are examples of solvents used in the chemical extraction process to create cannabis-infused products. Consumers must know these products are safe, and free from residual solvents. If an extraction is not expertly carried out, residual solvents may remain in a patient’s medicine. Our method determines the presence of any residual solvent remaining in concentrates, and if detected, confirms the amount is below the allowable limit.

Cannabis is susceptible to fungi and bacterial diseases as its growing conditions are often ideal environments for microbial growth. Our testing accurately determines the total amount of microbiological contamination present on a sample of cannabis. We test for the various type of fungi and bacteria mandated by the CRA.

Mycotoxins are toxic secondary metabolites produced by fungi and our screening ensures any amount of a toxin present is below a threshold considered safe for consumption.

Depending on the source, heavy metals can be found in soil and water supply. Cannabis is prone to absorbing heavy metals that bioaccumulate in the plant structure. Our testing confirms any presence of lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium and chromium is below limits considered for safe consumption as mandated by the CRA.

Cannabis may contain pesticide residues and due to the extraction process, cannabis-infused products may contain even higher amounts. The testing we perform accurately isolates, separates, identifies, and quantifies many chemical compounds in extremely low concentrations.

In vape products, vitamin E acetate is a thinning agent and is considered a major contaminant and threat to consumer safety.

It is possible mold, excess stalks, insects and other debris can be present on cannabis plants. We utilize stereoscopic inspection to detect the presence or absence of such foreign materials.
ANCILLARY

Water activity testing is a measurement of bioavailable water, which is water available outside of the cells of the sample. Measuring the water activity in a cannabis product helps demonstrate a product’s susceptibility to microbial contamination because the higher the measured water activity, the more freely water can be used by microbes to support chemical and enzymatic reactions leading to spoilage.

Plants that are infected with CCV, LCV and/or HLVd do not show signs or symptoms until plants are in flowering. As a result, mother plants that develop an infection in the later stages of development may appear healthy, but her cuttings will carry the infection. Furthermore, studies have shown CCV, LCV and HLVd can spread through water, which means clones from infected mothers can infect other healthy clones that share a water table. Although infected plants will survive to full maturity, the resulting flowers will have significantly lower cannabinoid content. In some cases, infected plants can have 50% of the cannabinoid content of healthy plants.
